A Hot Walk

It wasn't too hot, probably low 80s, but it sure felt like it after the approximately 3.5 miles of today's trek. I listened to much of NIN's Ghosts I-IV and enjoyed the relative coolness and serenity of the riverbank, once I got there.

Front Street from Broadway until the Promenade is not all that pleasant of a walk. There are few sidewalks, and those that do exist are old and a bit overgrown. Bike paths seem to be the better option in those cases.

But the final payoff is sights like those below. Even the turtles decided to take the day off, I saw about 5 altogether in two locations.

Somewhat Seeking Shade Sacto Stroll

A hot day for a walk (about 90 at lunch, heading towards 100) but bringing my camera today finally paid off. One of the two sea lions was out in Old Sac and even took a quick plunge to cool off.

I took a bunch of photos, although my camera is crap and the conditions weren't all that great (too much shade over the dock).

Cemetery Loop

I took a bit of a new route today in my walk @ lunch. This time I made a detour through the Sacramento City Cemetery. It's a pretty historic place, with a number of famous Californians buried there. The total walk was just shy of 3.5 miles.

Sea Lions in Sacto

A most unusual sighting today in my walk @ lunch. Down in Old Sacramento there were two large sea lions lounging on the dock. Not so unusual were the spring turtles sunning themselves on the river bank. I counted 13 in all, plus a squirrel and a pigeon.

The walk: Just over 2 miles.
The weather: comfortable, with a slight overcast

Walk @ Lunch

It's been a while since decent weather has allowed me to take a walk @ lunch, so I made up for it by doing a 4 mile loop. The day was sunny and not too cold. I refrained from stopping at Starbucks, passing a couple along the route, but couldn't help but stop at my building's snack bar to pick up an Almond Joy.

Sun is out

The rain stopped and it was sunny at lunch, so I took a walk. Total distance 1.92425 mi

This was a fairly standard walk, I should probably call it the "River Loop." I walk it when I want to check the river level after storms like the last day or so. The level was 5 ft at the Tower bridge, so not much of a raise just yet.

The walkway under the bridge has been removed, so they must be expecting a rise soon.

Walk @ Lunch

The destination today was the new walk along the Tower Bridge. A crossover to the West Sac Side, and then back again, though Old Sac along the docks, through the Amtrak station and a crisscross path back to the office. Somewhere around 2.5 miles.

To The Rescue

My Walk @ Lunch was short, just 1.73139 mi according to Google Maps. I only had a short time to be out, as I had a 1 PM meeting.

Along the route, on W St., I had the opportunity to help a woman trying to load a used recliner into her SUV. It fit, and I was on my way.

Birthday Girl

Today is Cece's 51st birthday, so I went after lunch (lunch was my Toastmasters meeting) to pick up a couple of gift cards at Macy's and Bath and Body Works, plus a little something at Hallmark. Normally, I don't walk @ lunch on Thursday because of my noontime meeting, but today had to be an exception. Basically, down to the mall and back, so it was only a little over a mile.

Tonight, we're going to Jalisco's in Roseville for dinner, then on to Thunder Valley for a bit of gaming, and we will be hitting the Starbucks there as well. It wouldn't be Thursday, if we didn't hit Starbucks.

Walk @ Lunch

Today's route took me to Old Sac and back via the Waterfront. But not before a stop at Macy's to see the infamous iPod vending machine that my brother-in-law told me about yesterday. There it is, accessories and iPods, altogether and controlled by a touch screen purchasing agent. I didn't buy or try, but it's pretty cool.

Only saw a few turtles by the river. I think I counted 5 in a couple of locations.

Walk @ Lunch

About a year ago, I established the habit of taking an extended walk at lunchtime during the work week. The key impetus was receiving an iPod as an anniversary gift from my wife, while the secondary, and probably should be foremost, reason was to try to become a bit fitter (I'd really like to lose about 30 lbs.)

Today's trek was short, only couple of miles, from 9th and O to P to 21st, to O and back. On the way, I stopped at the Starbucks at 16th and P and ordered a Grande Green Tea Frappucino Blended Creme. I picked up today's iTunes card Bitter:Sweet/Heaven and my receipt was targeted for a customer survey. I don't normally, but maybe I will complete it this time. My drink wasn't blended all that well; there were still a number of large chunks of ice in it.

While on my walks I often come across some interesting building or business. Today it was the Thistle dew dessert theatre. Although my wife doesn't eat dessert, we may want to check it out sometime.

Also, the aforementioned iPod was cranking out the tunes. Today's playlist:
